In a nutshell

In detail

2. Avatar

To create an avatar, it’s also simple (and free). Go to My Account page and choose Avatar tab.

  • You will need to choose a first name and a name for your avatar. This doesn’t have to be your real name nor the same name as your account on the site.
  • For now, the password may also be different. In an uncertain future, website and avatar passwords will be synchronized.

3. Software (viewer)

The “viewer” is the equivalent of your web browser for 3D worlds. You can use any viewer compatible with OpenSim to access Speculoos. We recommend Firestorm:

https://www.firestormviewer.org/os-operating-system/

Be sure to download the “Opensim Only” version (not the “SL Only”)

First add Speculoos to your viewer:

    • Go to the “Viewer” menu -> “Preferences” (or type Ctrl-P)
    • In the “Grid Manager” tab,
    • in the “Add New Grid” section, in Login URIbox, enter http://speculoos.world:8002/
  • Click “Apply” and then “OK”

When Speculoos is added, you can log in:

  • Enter your avatar’s first name and name in the “Username” box and your password in the “Password” box
  • Make sure the grid selected in the “Grid” menu is Speculoos
  • Click “Log In”.

Hypergrid

If you already have an avatar on another grid (such as OSgrid, FrancoGrid, GermanGrid, etc.), you can visit ours by entering the following address in the “map”:

  • speculoos.world:8002

or clicking one of these links:

Examples of alternative viewers

(It’s been a while since I tried them, no guarantee of result):

  • Singularity (Windows, Mac, Linux)
  • Imprudence (Windows, Mac, Linux)
  • Hippo viewer (Windows, Linux): So you wondered why you see hippos everywhere? Voilà.
  • For Second Life viewer, follow the laborious instructions here. If we feel brave, we’ll make a page just for that. It seems to me that Second Life no longer allows using its viewer for OpenSimulator, but I’m too lazy to check right away.
